Mission Statement:

The Crucifixion and the Shroud

"The Crucifixion and the Shroud” is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that serves as a vessel for educating people about the Crucifixion of Jesus and the Shroud of Turin. Simultaneously, it works with the scientists and researchers in the field of Sindonology (the Study of the Shroud of Turin) and through that collaboration it shares with the public the work of the scientists in a way that the general populous can understand.

“The Crucifixion and the Shroud” is committed to using the technological advancements and interests of the general populous in order to evangelize its mission. We welcome the opportunity to share our message to all people regardless of belief, practice, state of life, race, gender, or position.  We are willing to work with groups of all income levels to be able to share our message with them. Because of this, “The Crucifixion and the Shroud” will continue to present in schools, churches, prisons, and other venues that invite it to do so.

“The Crucifixion and the Shroud” is committed to leading the Sindonology industry through its integrity, innovation, accessibility, and passion. We are dedicated to raising the overall standards within the industry and are devoted to maintaining an active profile within industry organizations and associations. We are further committed to the development of strong ties with related industries, Churches, and organizations, who greatly contribute to our success.

“The Crucifixion and the Shroud” is recognized by the United States Government as a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization. Our EIN Number is: 30-0358741.

 Organization History:

This organization has its origin in humble beginnings in the year 2000, when founder, Chris Knabenshue was in seminary in Boston where he met Dr. Gilbert Lavoie, an Internationally known expert on the Shroud. It was through Dr. Lavoie's book, "Unlocking the Secrets of the Shroud," that Chris' passion for the Shroud of Turin grew.

Since he was accustomed to doing small classroom presentations, teaching religion with magic tricks at his parish grade school, he decided to put together a small presentation on The Crucifixion and the Shroud for a junior high class. Little did he know that it would expand to what it is today.

The presentation was incredibly well received, and after some minor expansions, it was presented at several churches and schools.  At this point the idea of turning it into a non-profit organization was thought of, but not yet realized.

In 2001, Chris was given the honor of reading Fr. Walter Abbott's paper entitled A Theological Perspective of the Shroud of Turin at the 2001 International Conference of the Shroud of Turin in Dallas, Texas (hosted by AMSTAR). During the summer of 2005, a website (www.crucifixionshroud.com) was created as a means to advertise the presentation.

As the presentation became more and more popular, the need arose to finally become an officially recognized organization.  In 2006, Non-Profit 501c3 status for The Crucifixion and the Shroud was received, turning it into an organization dedicated to the continued education and evangelization of the Passion of Christ and the Shroud of Turin.

In August of 2008, Chris presented his own material at the International Shroud of Turin Conference (Columbus, Ohio) entitled "The Tangible Emmanuel".

To celebrate the 2010 exposition of the Shroud, “The Crucifixion and the Shroud” in partnership with Crespi Carmelite High School and Adoration Tours led a pilgrimage of about 35 people to see the Shroud and the Passion play at Oberammergau as well as other European sites.

To this day, “The Crucifixion and the Shroud” continues its work to innovatively spread the message of Christ’s love by way of the Crucifixion and the Shroud of Turin.  Through its expansive website, unique hands-on exhibit, and continual presence and connections with the international Sindonology community; “The Crucifixion and the Shroud” continues to reach people in a tangible and relevant way.
